Timeline: Can I Participate in the New Nurse Practitioner Residency?

Application season for Midlevels for the Medically Underserved, MidlevelU's new residency-like program for nurse practitioners is well underway. Here at MidlevelU HQ, we've been thrilled to receive interest in MMU from nurse practitioners across the country and anticipate a fantastic inaugural class. One question we commonly receive about the program concerns timeline. If you are currently a nurse practitioner student, are you eligible to apply?

Midlevels for the Medically Underserved (MMU) welcomes nurse practitioner participants of all levels of experience. The program is especially designed with new graduate NPs in mind. As a nurse practitioner myself, I experienced the frustration that comes along with jumping from clinical preceptorships into the responsibility of full-fledged NP practice. Midlevels for the Medically Underserved gives nurse practitioners a more comfortable, graduated transition to practice - with a purpose!

Nurse practitioners participating in Midlevels for the Medically Underserved must be fully certified and licensed (or close to it!) by the MMU kick off conference in September 2016. Current nurse practitioner students graduating in summer 2016 or before are welcome to apply! Participating new grad NPs must take a certification exam and apply for licensure in a timely manner after graduation to ensure they are ready to participate in the program.

The following timeline serves as a guide for nurse practitioners interested in applying to Midlevels for the Medically Underserved.

Comments

I am confused about the recommendation process.  Am I to forward the MMU recommendation forms directly to my references or does MMU send them?  Also, if my reference writes a letter of recommendation, is that acceptable?

Thanks in advance

What would the application/program timeline be for a December 2018 graduate?

Thank you!

Hi Belinda,

Yes! MMU participants are placed in sites across the country.

We are still working on lining up MMU facilities for the 2016-2017 program and can work to try to secure a site within commuting distance for NPs who cannot relocate. The likelihood of finding a site within commuting distance depends on your location and specialty.

If you would like to participate in the Fall 2016-2017 MMU class, email mmu@midlevelu.com with your interest and site requirements and we will work to accommodate you!

Are all the residencies placed in the state of TN? With a family, child in high school, house etc...I am unable to pick up and move. Do you place in FQHCs close to home all over the country?
Thank you.
