Diabetes Art Day

Yesterday, September 24th, 2012 was Diabetes Art Day.  I will admit, I did not know about this occasion until today- one day too late!  That's ok.  I am artistically challenged.  So, even though I missed the chance to create my own masterpiece, I would like to share with you all some of my favorite amazing works of art submitted in recognition of those living with diabetes.

Diabetes Art Day was created by Lee Ann Thill, art therapist, type 1 diabetic and blogger (The Butter Compartment).  She founded Diabetes Art Day in 2012 to encourage individuals and families with diabetes to engage in creative expression. Make sure to visit www.diabetesartday.com to see the full 2012 gallery of submissions.

Katy, age 14, diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 2011 submitted this precious photo of her dog alongside her insulin pump.

Annette has lived with type 1 diabetes for 26 years.  She submitted this amazing collage of test strips creating the image of a diabetes alert dog.

I love this artistic photography submitted by Tehya who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in March, 2011.

Maddie shows us what 6 months worth of insulin syringes looks like!

Talented 16 year old Natalie painted this picture of 3 year old Faith (diagnosed at age 9 months) and her diabetes dog Ruby.

There are over 100 pieces of amazing diabetes art posted on the Diabetes Art Day website, be sure to check them out!

Wow! Love the painting of the girl and her dog. I can't believe it was done by a 16 year old. Such talent.
